In childhood Klaus Laubmayer passionately engaged with the works of Ernest Hemingway and his struggle with life and death. Laubmayer was especially fascinated with the book “Death in the Afternoon”. By the end of 1980s, Laubmayer followed Hemingway’s book and the bullfight events in Spain to create photographic images. He utilized the camera lens to isolate his view to be able to deal in a protective way with the struggle of life and death.

 

In the early 1990s, Klaus was booked for an editorial shooting with Margaux Hemingway in New York. This photographic series was taken after the shooting on a private session. It was obvious for Klaus that Margaux had similarity with her grandfather - very tormented and facing painful struggles with life and death.
